About

The history of the mosque dates back to the nineties of the last century, It was a humble mosque on Almeda Street (the feast in Arabic) and God has dedicated it to a privileged location in the Houston Medical Center which is the largest center in the world for oncology. Which makes many brothers from all over the world go to the Houston Medical Center for treatment to visit the mosque and perform their devotional prayer and rituals there. The President of MCIS Dr. Salah as-Sawy (b. 1954, Fazarah, Egypt) is a senior scholar affiliated with the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America. As a youth in 1962 he won the Egyptian National Quran memorization contest. In 1976, he completed his Bachelors degree in the Faculty of Legislation and Law in al-Azhar University, going on to earn his Doctorate and an assistant professorship on the Faculty. From 1981 to 1986, he worked as an assistant professor at the prestigious Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, and from 1987 to 1985, was Director for the Scientific Miracle Association for the Islamic World League. From 1987 to 1992, he directed the Legislative Research Center of the office of the Islamic World League in Islamabad, Pakistan. From 1992 to1995, al-Sawy was a visiting professor in the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Sciences, a satellite campus of Saudi Arabia’s Ibn Saud Islamic University in Fairfax, Virginia. He was Director of the Legislative Research Center in the United States, as well as the Vice-President of the American Open University since its inception in 1995 until 2004.
