The Islamic Association of Indianapolis was founded in 2001 by a group of African families, predominantly from West African countries such as the Republic of Benin, Nigeria, and Guinea. Borne out of the need for a place to worship, these Muslim brothers and sisters together with their families, decided to meet weekly for the cause of Allah. They engaged in worship together in the form of dhikr, (remembrance of Allah), Quran recitation and Islamic education. Initially, the group meetings were rotated among the houses of members, but as the community grew, that was no longer feasible. In 2006, the group became a registered organization under the banner “Islamic Association of Indianapolis”. There was also the temporary measure of seeking permission for the use of nearby mosques (such as Al-Fajr) for our activities but this often conflicted with the schedule of programs held at these mosques. In 2009, the group acquired a small property at 3320 North Arlington Road, Indianapolis. By 2014, we had expanded tremendously, such that the membership soon outstripped the available space. That same year, we embraced the name “Sabeel-ul Faoz” meaning “Path to Success”. Ultimately, in August 2016, we were able to purchase a larger property at 9033 Crawfordsville Road, Indianapolis. Presently, the organization has over 500 members. We also run a Weekend Arabic School on the premises, which operates both on Saturdays as well as Sundays. Vision To become a full-time masjid, which will be open for the 5 daily prayers and Jumah prayers. To hold religious activities such as workshops that will further educate members about the religion. To create a forum for the youth. To promote Islamic values in the neighborhood by embarking in charitable ventures such as food drives and also social events that will promote Interfaith relationships. To enhance the lives of members by addressing their needs as much as possible. Mission To promote the beauty of Islam.
